Weissensee
| Austria

Once a year ... Weissensee turns into one crazy
Frysian Elfsteden zone!
Rarely is a holiday region blessed with so many natural attributes
as the Weissensee. This fjord-like lake with water of drinking quality
lies nestled in a nature conservation areo of some 76 square kilometers.
There are 140 kilometers of signposted footpaths of all degrees of difficulty
leading from the lake up into the surrounding mountains.
70 Kilometer long network of double-tracked trails to suit skiers of every
standard. Holiday makers can enjoy unlimited cross-country skiing in one
of the sunniest winter sports region in the Alps. The lake freezes in
winter to become Europe's biggest natural ice-rink, covering 6,5 quare
kilometers. The ice reaches depths up to 40 cm, making it safe for every
kind of ice-sports.
